My name is Shaylin, but I go by Yu-Mei which is also my middle and Chinese name. I was abandoned by my biological parents at one month old. After being abandoned I was taken to an orphanage and lived there for nine years. I was adopted in 2007, where I lived with a family who lived in Hope, Michigan. When I got adopted it was a little struggle for me to learn the new culture and new language. It was not only culture and language barrier that I struggle through, I also struggled with depression, suicidal thoughts and getting along with my adopted family. At the age of 15 I was taken out of my adopted home and lived with a couple who became my guardians until I was 18. While living there I was introduced to God and started going to church. Soon after I got baptized and decided to live my life for Jesus. It is by the grace of God that I am where I am today. Currently, I am finishing my internship to graduate with a bachelorโs degree. I have two good part time jobs and I do volunteer-work for Gods kingdom. Those include serving as an assistant leader for kids ministries and counselor at Royal family kids camp which is a Christian camp for kids who have experienced abuse and or neglect. Now I get the opportunity to go to Costa Rica and share His love internationally. Thank you for taking the time to read part of my life story.ย
